About EcoHungary

Promoting Sustainable Living in the Heart of Central Europe

Our Story

EcoHungary started as a personal project in 2024. After years of living in Budapest and trying to reduce our environmental impact, we noticed a gap: while there were scattered resources about sustainable living in Hungary, nothing brought it all together in one accessible, English-language guide.

We set out to create the resource we wished had existed when we first started our own eco-friendly journey. Our content is based on firsthand experience, not press releases or sponsored placements. When we recommend a market, a product, or a practice, it is because we have tried it ourselves and found it genuinely useful.

We are not affiliated with any government body, corporation, or environmental organization. Our editorial decisions are independent, and we do not accept payment for reviews or recommendations. The goal is simple: to make sustainable living in Hungary more accessible by providing honest, practical information.

What We Cover

Zero Waste Practices

Practical guides to reducing waste in a Hungarian context, including where to find package-free shops, how to compost in an apartment, and understanding the local recycling system.

Sustainable Food

Reviews of farmers' markets, organic shops, and CSA programs in Budapest and beyond. We focus on sources that offer locally grown, seasonal produce with minimal environmental impact.

Nature & Green Spaces

Guides to Hungary's national parks, urban green spaces, and conservation areas. We cover visiting practicalities, ecological significance, and how to engage responsibly with these environments.

Eco-Friendly Products

Honest assessments of sustainable product alternatives available in Hungary, from household items to personal care. We only recommend products we have tested ourselves.

Editorial Standards

All content on EcoHungary is based on firsthand experience and independent research. We do not accept payment for reviews, listings, or recommendations. Information is verified against authoritative sources including European Environment Agency data, Hungarian government publications, and peer-reviewed research where applicable.

We update our guides at least twice a year to reflect current conditions, pricing, and availability. If you spot an error or have updated information to share, please contact us at editors@jotiycaggado.eu. We credit all contributors and value corrections from local experts.
